Bihar to create more universities

The Bihar government has decided to restructure the existing universities in the state in the wake of fresh guidelines of the University Grant Commission.A proposal to this effect had been submitted to the department by the Director of Higher Education.The new move is aimed at restructuring the existing universities of the state for smooth functioning.The proposal recommended creating smaller universities in the state. At present there are twelve universities in Bihar.A detailed proposal would be submitted soon to bifurcate the Magadh University at Bodh Gaya.

“A new university will be set up in Patna after bifurcation of Magadh and Patna universities,” a senior official said.He said the proposal to carve smaller universities out of B R A Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, L N Mithila University, Darbhanga and Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur would be initiated later.

The proposal to select the present universities has been mooted in keeping with UGC's guidelines for more universities to boost Gross Enrolment Ratio.
