325 Dangerous Black Spots Identified in 13 States

325 most dangerous black spots have been identified in 13 States with the help of State Police Departments. These spots account for about 90% road accidents for which several short term and long term remedial measures have been proposed for implementation, so as to reduce road accidents. Out of these 325 black spots, 233 black spots are on National Highways (NHs) with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Their improvement is included under various projects at different stages of implementation. Out of remaining 92 black spots, 18 black spots are on State Highways (SHs), which is the responsibility of the State Governments. Further out of remaining 74 black spots on National Highways entrusted to State PWDs, 13 black spots are on stretches proposed for improvement on BOT Basis. Remaining 61 locations on National Highways are targeted to be sanctioned out of 10% of Plan provision during 2012-2013 subject to preparation of DPR, acquisition of Land Acquisition, Inter se priority and availability of fund.
